Woods harbour (NS) –
Shelburne County’s Woodland Mutli-use Trail will soon stretch to Yarmouth, thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada.

“The Government of Canada is pleased to invest in the construction of a trail segment that will link Woods Harbour to the existing Yarmouth County trail network,” said Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South Shore-St. Margaret’s and Parliamentary Secretary for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, on behalf of the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and La Francophonie. “Our investment empowers the community to build upon local assets to strengthen valuable infrastructure for residents and visitors alike.”

This project supports the development of an 8 km section of trail completing a continuous link between Woods Harbour and Yarmouth. The Woods Harbour to Yarmouth link is the fourth phase of an initiative to create a 93 km trail system throughout Shelburne County. The enhanced trail network will attract hikers, runners, cyclists, skiers, birders and horseback riders—from local communities and afar.

“The Woodland Multi-use Trail will do wonderful things for our community and for South West Nova Scotia,” said Sherman Embree, Secretary of the Woodland Multi-use Trail Association. “It is our hope that it will one day become part of the Trans Canada Trail.”

The Government of Canada’s $18,178 investment, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF), is in addition to a $38,000 contribution from Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection and $50,000 from the Off-Highway Vehicle Infrastructure Fund Trails Program.

"We're pleased to contribute to this project as we recognize the positive health benefits that come with being physically active," said Sterling Belliveau, MLA for Shelburne on behalf of Maureen MacDonald, Minister of Health and Wellness "This project will serve thousands of local residents giving them greater access to enjoy the outdoors, be active, and stay healthy.
