How do I apply for a student loan?

 

The National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) manages all Canada Student Loans issued on or after August 1, 2000. In other words, you no longer need to go to a financial institution to obtain a Canada Student Loan. Instead, your loan is funded by the Government of Canada through the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC). When it comes time to repay your loan, you will repay the NSLSC (for loans issued on or after August 1, 2000). Your province might also offer Provincial Student Loans. If you are planning a trip abroad or even to the United States, it is extremely important to have a Canadian passport as proof of citizenship and residency in Canada. For information on how to obtain a passport, please visit one of the regional passport offices or download an application.

The Old Age Security program is one of the cornerstones of Canada's retirement income system. Benefits include the basic Old Age Security pension, the Guaranteed Income Supplement and the Allowance. After briefly describing the program's history and overall features, each of the specific benefits is described in turn.

 

What are Canada Pension Plan survivor benefits and how can I apply?

 

Canada Pension Plan survivor benefits are paid to a deceased contributor's estate, surviving spouse or common-law partner and dependent children. There are three types of benefits.

 

  • The death benefit is a one-time payment to, or on behalf of, the estate of a deceased Canada Pension Plan contributor;

     

  • The survivor's pension is a monthly pension paid to the surviving spouse or common-law partner of a deceased contributor;

     

  • The children's benefit is a monthly benefit for dependent children of a deceased contributor.
