July 22, 2010
Lunenburg, NS – Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South Shore – St. Margaret’s, today announced federal funding of $30,000 for the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival.

“The Government of Canada is proud to support the 25th annual Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival,” said MP Keddy. “By partnering with the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society, we can assist them in providing opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy musical performances and hands on workshops.”

“You can feel the excitement in the air as we prepare for the opening of our 25th anniversary Festival,” said Marilyn Keddy, President of the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society. “The support we receive from the Department of Canadian Heritage, through the Arts Presentation Program, is very valuable. Not only does this funding help support the Festival, it also assists us with year-round events such as our monthly concert series and the summer concerts at the Lunenburg Heritage Bandstand. The Festival is a success story because of the incredible support we receive from volunteers, our sponsors and the community.”

The objective of the Canada Arts Presentation Fund (CAPF) is to give Canadians access to a variety of professional artistic experiences in their communities. The CAPF recognizes that arts presenters are key partners in achieving this objective by providing financial assistance to organizations that professionally present arts festivals or performing arts series, as well as their support organizations.

“Music is a key component of the cultural heritage of our region,” said MP Keddy. “I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank and recognize the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society and its many volunteers for all of their hard work in organizing this festival. As its long history suggests, the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival remains a favourite for folk music enthusiasts, tourists, and locals alike.”
The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival will take place in Lunenburg, NS from August 5-8, 2010. Coming to celebrate the 25th Anniversary are: Matt Andersen, Connie Kaldor, Artisan, David Francey, Suzie Vinnick & Rick Fines, The Barra MacNeils, James Keelaghan, House of Doc, The Good Lovelies and many more.
