Lockeport, NS – Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South Shore – St. Margaret’s, today announced federal funding of $7,400 for the Harmony Bazaar: Festival of Women & Song Society.

“The Government of Canada is proud to support the 5th edition of the Harmony Bazaar,” said MP Keddy. “By partnering with the Harmony Bazaar: Festival of Women & Song Society, we can assist them in providing opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy musical performances and exhibits of visual art by local female artists.”

"Harmony Bazaar works to develop our local cultural community and the funding we have received from the federal government is to support and showcase our local performers and to develop a strong volunteer base,” said Errin Williams Spidle, Producer, Harmony Bazaar: Festival of Women & Song Society. “We are so excited to have the opportunity to bring established artists like Sylvia Tyson and Cindy Church to Lockeport to entertain and to demonstrate to the performers involved in our festival that music can be a career.”

In September 2007, the Government of Canada announced the new Building Communities through Arts and Heritage (BCAH) program to provide Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.

“Music is a key component of the cultural heritage of our region,” said MP Keddy. “I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank the Harmony Bazaar: Festival of Women & Song Society for helping to build the cultural and social foundations of our community.”

The Harmony Bazaar: Festival of Women & Song will take place in Lockeport, NS from July 23-25, 2010. Festival activities will take place at Seacaps Memorial Park and the Lockeport Fire Hall.
